Meet the Celebrant – It’s Wedding Fair Season!

From January onwards, when there are not so many weddings booked, you might imagine it is when the Celebrant has a holiday, or a sleep….  well, no that doesn’t actually happen!

Apart from the fact that I am also a Funeral Celebrant (and statistically we are busier in the winter), Christmas, New Year and St Valentine’s Day bring a flurry of engagements.  The happy couples then start thinking about their weddings.  Mood boards, clip files, wedding planning countdown calendars, highlighter pens…  and Wedding Fairs!

I am at Wedding Fairs most weekends in February and March, and then again October and November.  It is quite a hefty investment in cost, but also in time, but something I consider worthwhile.   You can buy some things via the internet, from looking at a photograph but one thing you can’t do is see what your celebrant is like!  Sure, you can look at my website, check out my photo – but is that really me?  (er, yes it is!).   You can listen to me speaking on AudioBoo and there are even one or 2 recordings on YouTube.   But nothing beats actually meeting me, asking me questions, and deciding whether I am the right person to lead your wedding ceremony, in front of all your dearest family and friends.  The occasion when you declare your love publicly and make those huge promises to one another to stay together for ever.    That is why I do wedding fairs, so you can ‘Meet the Celebrant’, and I have to say it is where I get most of my wedding ceremony bookings.

I first met Jane and Mark at a wedding fair, and they booked me for their ceremony.   I am delighted to be officiating at their wedding tomorrow at The Great Barn in Aynho, Oxfordshire.    Then on Sunday, I will be at a Wedding Fair at Rye Hill Golf Club nr Banbury.  I will be meeting 2 other couples during the day, who I met at the 2013 Wedding Fair there.  I have written their ceremonies for both their weddings, in  August and November this year, and we are just meeting up for a glass of fizz.
